Tia Fuller was born in into a musical family. Her parents were both jazz musicians as well as educators and administrators in the Denver Public School System. Tia grew up listening to her parents rehearse in the basement and was also exposed to the music of jazz greats like John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughn and Charlie Parker.
Inspired by her older sister, Tia began playing classical piano when she was just three years old and flute when she was nine. Her interest in jazz came into fruition in high school. It was during this time that she began playing the saxophone.
Tia continued to develop as a musician and eductor, receiving a bachelor's degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and received here Master's Degree in Jazz Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Now an accomplished performer in her own right, Tia has recorded three CDs with her quartet: Pillar of Strength (2005), Healing Space (2007) and Decisive Steps (2010).
The dynamic saxophonist has been featured in Jazz Improv Magazine, Rocky Mountain News, The Philadelphia Tribune, Downbeat Magazine and many other print and online publications.
